[Belgium] Prince Laurent has been exempted from his official duties

Prince Laurent, King Albert II's youngest son - and the most controversial member of the Belgian royal family - will be exempted of any official activities of the royal house as a punishment for his behavior lately.

This information was confirmed by several Belgian newspapers today.

The decision, which so far has not been confirmed officially by the royal family, results from the fact Laurent made a controversial trip - without official authorization of the Government - to the Democratic Republic of Congo, a former Belgian colony.

"Laurent is no longer welcome at the palace" declared the press today. These declarations come after the official agenda of the prince on www.monarchie.be has been emptied.

The measure will not be applied to his wife, Princess Claire, and their three children, according to a source close to the princes.
