Fergie aka Sarah, the Duchess of York slowly getting back to the social scene

She's been keeping a low-profile lately in view of the troubles that have hit her finances. But there was one event, Sarah, Duchess of York couldn't miss - her half-sister Alice Ferguson's wedding. For the happy occasion, the flame-haired royal had picked out a multi-coloured silk dress with a slate grey, embroidered cropped jacket and matching fascinator. Alice is the daughter of Sarah's late father Major Ronald Ferguson and his second wife Susan Deptford. Now in her twenties, she was a bridesmaid when the Duchess married Prince Andrew in the Eighties. The director of a travel company, she is based in Singapore with her new husband Nick Stileman, an Australian banker. Making the country wedding in the Fergusons' village of Dummer, Hampshire a truly family affair, Sarah was accompanied by her daughters Beatrice and Eugenie. And arriving in the company of her pretty girls, the 50-year-old managed to look chipper, exchanging a few cheerful words with onlookers. A day out among friends and family must have been a comfort to her.

Earlier this year she was forced to apologise for an error of judgement after a sting operation by an undercover reporter, in which she was caught on camera, offering to arrange access to her ex- husband.

Not related to the news, but I really disliked how Fergie was dressed up.

Duchess of York joins tribute to slain honeymoon couple

Sarah Ferguson was among 500 mourners at a Wednesday memorial service for newlyweds Ben and Catherine Mullany, the couple murdered in Antigua on the last day of their honeymoon in July. The Duchess of York met the late couple's family while en route to the Caribbean island with Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie in August. The slain pair's relatives were travelling there, too, and Sarah revealed she'd been "touched as a mother and a parent" by the tragedy.
(Advertisement)Speaking before the Cardiff memorial, at which she read Yeats' poem He Wishes For The Cloths Of Heaven, the Duchess said: "I think the whole world was taken by the tragedy of Ben and Catherine, who were taken away at such a young age".
Sarah has also agreed to become a patron of the Mullany fund, a charity set up in memory of the late couple to help finance prospective medical students and physiotherapists. Ben, 31, was a trainee physiotherapist and his new wife, also 31, was a GP. The Duchess has already donated £10,000 from the Sarah Ferguson Foundation.
"They were so in love and so happy…" she said. "It is just an extraordinary story."

Fergie used to be woken by a prince, but now it's a flashgun from a passing photographer

It was 3am and she'd had a busy night. So it was only natural that the Duchess of York succumbed to the inevitable and nodded off in the back of a Mercedes taxi taking her home.
But she had a rude awakening – when her slumbers were interrupted by a passing photographer.
Sarah Ferguson was caught off guard in the early hours of Thursday as she dozed in the back of the luxury taxi. The flash of the camera woke her and, clearly disoriented, she ordered her driver to speed off.
An onlooker said: "It was a bizarre situation. It was 3am and the Duchess of York was asleep in the back of a taxi stopped at traffic lights on Cromwell Road in Kensington, West London. "When the flash went off she awoke with a look of horror on her face and told the driver to make off as quickly as possible.
"You certainly don't expect to see a member of the Royal Family snoozing in a cab, especially at 3am."
Sarah was not wearing a seat belt as she slept. As the car was in traffic, she was breaking the law.
And the photos have prompted speculation about what she was doing at that time of night.
The former wife of Prince Andrew was wearing a fashionable black leather blazer and lacy fishnet-style tights with a distinctive floral design on the calf.
The Duchess, an ambassador for WeightWatchers, could have been eating in one of the many restaurants in Kensington.
Or she may simply have been tired after a day's house-hunting.

She is said to be looking to buy a £1million apartment for her daughter, Princess Beatrice, who is expected to start a design course next year at Goldsmiths College in London.
The simplest explanation could be that her busy transatlantic lifestyle is taking a heavy toll.
The Duchess regularly commutes between Britain and America, where she runs a successful charity, writes children's books and works as a part-time television presenter on the Larry King show on CNN.
Last week, there was no sign of Geir Frantzen, her close friend and boss of the Findus food empire, who has been spotted in her company in recent weeks.
Last month the tycoon – who at 40 is eight years the Duchess's junior – escorted her around some of his favourite spots in Lofoten, a remote archipelago in northern Norway, where the pair were seen dining on whale burgers.
Friends say their relationship is strictly professional and deny reports she is planning to buy a holiday home in Norway.

Talented Eugenie set to follow sister Beatrice's artistic ambitions

Princess Eugenie looks set to follow in her older sister's footsteps by pursuing a career in the art world.
The 18-year-old daughter of the Duke and Duchess of York is studying at Marlborough College and is considering going to art school instead of university when she completes her A-levels later this year.
"Eugenie spends every spare hour she has in the art room," says a friend.
"She has decided she wants to continue studying art and at the moment she's debating whether to pass up university and go to art college instead."

Perhaps she might join Beatrice at Goldsmiths College where her sister plans to study textiles.
Meanwhile Princess Beatrice has been learning a new skill while on holiday in Thailand.
She acquired her PADI Open Water scuba-diving certificate in Koh Tao.
"Beatrice and a few friends learned the basics and went for a dive, which they loved," according to a source.
Apparently, the traditional celebration for passing the course involves filling a snorkel with a local spirit and downing it in one.

RO comment: doesn't Eugenie look slimmer and absolutely stunning in this photograph? :)

Fergie and HRH Sarah Duchess of York at 2007 Cipriani Wall Street Concert Series

May 18 2007 (Sawf News) - On May 17th, 2007, Fergie performed at the 2007 Cipriani Wall Street Concert Series in New York City. The Series was held as a benefit for the US Fund for UNICEF, the charity organization devoted to helping children worldwide. A key member of the audience was Sarah Duchess of York, better known as the ex-wife of Prince Andrew. The two women hit it off as both were on the same track, being major celebrities who just happen to have the same name. Fergie, of course, is the lead vocalist of the Black Eyed Peas, who also recently launched her debut album “The Dutchess” in 2006, a tribute to the Duchess of York. She was recently placed at number ten on Maxim’s Hot 100 Women of 2007. With a voice unlike any other and legs a mile long, the lady could give other singers a complex!

Sarah Ferguson, also known as the Duchess of York, and the inspiration for the album, found name and fame by marrying and divorcing the Queen’s second son. Escaping the onslaught of negative media after her split, she moved to New York and started a new life. Not only is she a fixture in society circles, but she supports children’s organizations like Children in Crisis, and is the global RHMC (Ronald McDonald House Charities) Ambassador for World Children’s Day.
Fergie Street
The two Fergies took to the red carpet with somewhat different outfits, one completely juvenile while the other was her usual sophisticated self. Seen in this recent photograph on May 17th, 2007, Fergie makes a statement in a short white dress with sheer puffy sleeves and gold buttons down the front, with matching gold heels. While we’re all for strolling down memory lane, and think she probably wanted to fit in with the children’s theme of the event, dressing up like a kid didn’t suit her, and it didn’t do a whole lot for us either! The puffed sleeves make it look like she is about to sing at a five-year-old’s birthday, and not like a major A-lister on the music scene. Demure this dress certainly is, classy it is not. When you’ve got gams, it makes sense to show them, not hide them under yards of sad-looking fabric.
Sarah Ferguson was an altogether different story. While before she was known for being overweight and a notoriously bad dresser during Princess Diana’s lifetime, Sarah cleaned up her act by going to Weight Watchers and getting a much-needed wardrobe overhaul. The result? A glamorous single mother-of-two. She dons a low-cut black dress with matching black heels and wrap, and you can see she’s kept the weight off for good! Mark Twain once said that “Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.” Clearly, Sarah understands this essential truth of our times, and isn’t afraid to use it! We rarely see her in anything besides designer duds, but at least they are wearable. Which is more than we can say for friend Fergie, who has a better body than Sarah but on this occasion chose not to flaunt it! All we can guess is that maybe she didn’t want to outshine Ms. Sarah, the muse of her first solo effort. If we had our druthers, the Duchess of York would take her new friend to Saks and burn the white dress so clearly not meant for her impeccable figure!
